We are seeking a Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) to support our Veterinary Technician and Veterinary Assistant programs. As a support staff member in the Health, Wellness & Sciences academic area at Georgian College, you will have the opportunity to apply your passion for sharing your rich industry experience by creating a supportive and effective learning environment which supports students to achieve their full potential.

Located in Orillia, moving to Barrie (Fall 2026) and reporting to the Associate Dean the incumbent provides technician support  in teaching labs within the Veterinary Assistant and Technician Programs.  This role assists faculty and students during laboratory sessions, maintains equipment and teaching animals/models, ensures compliance with safety and welfare standards, and contributes to an effective learning environment for students. Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

•    Assist faculty during laboratory sessions by demonstrating proper clinical, nursing, and technical procedures.
•    Guide and coach students in hands-on skills such as restraint, sample collection, anesthesia monitoring, surgical preparation, dentistry and other foundational competencies.
•     Collaborating with faculty to formulate a plan of action, and provide individual coaching to students struggling to demonstrate skill competency
•    Providing feedback to faculty on observed skills for students
•    Setting up equipment and supplies in the lab for student practice 
•    Ensuring all lab safety standards and standard operating procedures for electronic and other safety requirements (i.e. sharps, etc.) in a health care environment are followed
•    Maintaining accurate student records

 

QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
•    RVT in good standing with the OAVT
•    At least 5 years’ experience working in a veterinary hospital
•    Experience training and demonstrating skills to others
•    Demonstrated knowledge of health and safety rules and regulations in a health care environment
•    Computer skills and experience using the MS Office Suite
•    Interpersonal and communication (oral & written) skills 
•    Must be self-directed with the ability to work independently and as a team member
•    Proven analytical, critical thinking, decision making, and problem-solving skills
•    Demonstrated planning, coordinating and time management skills
•    Ability to maintain confidentiality
•    Courses in Teaching and Training Adults would be an asset
•    Five or more years’ experience teaching within an accredited Veterinary Technician program would be an assetExperience with simulation would be an asset
•    Experience in the areas of anesthesia, surgery and/or dental care would be an asset.
