Reporting to the Associate Dean, of Human Services and Community Safety, the incumbent develops and delivers a course in the Human Services and Community Safety academic area for the Pre-service Firefighter. Courses may be scheduled and delivered during the day or evening and are planned to be delivered in person at the Barrie campus or online. Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

•    Delivers a course in the Pre-service Firefighter program (Potential courses include, but are not limited to):
o    FIRE 1111 - Fire Safety Inspections 
o    FIRE 1070 – Fire Protection Systems and Public Education 
•    Develops and delivers appropriate curriculum to meet course objectives 
•    Incorporates a variety of teaching / learning strategies to meet student needs
•    Evaluates student progress / achievement
•    Participates in program and college activities as required
•    Participates in program revisions and renewal activities as required
•    Creates and maintains a positive learning environment

Qualifications:

•    Certified in NFPA 1031 Standard for Professional Qualifications for Fire Inspector and Plans Examiner (Level I, Level II preferred) 
•    Certified in NFPA 1035 Standard on Fire and Life Safety Educator, Public Information Officer, Youth Firesetter Intervention Specialist and Youth Firesetter Program Manager Professional Qualifications Level I, Level II as an asset Post-Secondary education in Fire Protection Technology, Building Science, Law Enforcement, Criminal Justice and Legal Studies, Criminology, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is a strong asset 
•    NFPA 1041 Standard for Fire Service Instructor Professional Level One required. NFPA 1041 Standard for Fire Service Instructor Professional Level Two would be considered an asset. 
•    A minimum of five years’ experience in the fire service
•    Knowledge and experience in concepts of building construction and fire code application 
•    Demonstrated knowledge of the Ontario Fire Code, the Ontario Building Code and other relatable codes, legislation, and regulations 
•    Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
•    Commitment to life-long learning 
•    Computer literacy: MS Office along with a high comfort level with learning new software such as student learning management systems and various teaching delivery applications
•    Proven ability to work in a team environment and to foster the same in students
•    Experience in some or all of the following is an asset: curriculum development, a variety of delivery strategies, learning methodologies, academic advising, and student success strategies
•    Teaching and Training certification and / or experience in a teaching or training capacity is an asset

Acceptable proof of education (degree, credentials) from recognized post secondary institutions or confirmation of international equivalencies will be required as part of selection process
