This position works across Georgian College, Career & Employment Services catchment area with Indigenous community members, students, community partners, and employers to increase employment, education, and training opportunities for Indigenous peoples as a priority. The incumbent provides enhanced intake and assessment, employment and training planning, community and internal College referrals, job search support, job matching, retention services, and connection to culturally relevant resources and supports.
The incumbent collaborates with Indigenous communities, organizations, employers, internal departments, faculty, and funders to strengthen pathways to employment and education while promoting Indigenous student and community success. Through relationship-building, outreach, and the delivery of Indigenous-focused initiatives, the incumbent supports culturally responsive service delivery and advances Georgian College's Career and Employment Services commitment to reconciliation, inclusion, and community engagement.
This position requires the candidate to demonstrate Indigenous citizenship, traditional knowledge and connection to Indigenous community, as well as lived experience and deep understanding and respect of Indigenous histories, traditions and cultures. Specific duties include, but are not limited to:
- Assessing the jobseekers immediate needs through formal and informal intake processes
- Referring jobseekers to appropriate community and college supports based on client centred needs
- Collaborating and developing transparent systems with community partners and funders to build pathways for effective referrals and service delivery for mutual jobseekers and employers
- Facilitating, supporting, and coaching jobseekers in developing an effective return-to-work/school action plan using an employment and career counseling client-centered approach
- Facilitating the purchase or reimbursement of disability-related support material, short-term training, travel, and work clothing to ensure an effective transition to employment/skills training
- Collaborate with Indigenous Services to develop and maintain an Indigenous resource directory (i.e., Indigenous organizations/services and awards, scholarships & bursaries). I.e., third-party sponsorship/band funding, Jordan’s Principle, disability funding opportunities, etc.
- Build trusting relationships with Indigenous jobseekers to foster belonging, cultural connection, and communit
- Work with local employers and employer support groups (i.e. economic development/chamber of commerce or industry groups) to develop work placement opportunities for clients
- Develop agreements with employers for on-the-job training for clients and monitoring placements for effectiveness in supporting both employer and client including submission of financial reimbursement
- Providing support and coaching to clients and employers to ensure the client is successful in retaining employment for up to 1-year post-employment
- Acting as a liaison to Indigenous community partners, employers, and employer groups to market services through events, community meetings, and provincial networks
- Designing, developing, and delivering job search and industry-focused and career-related workshops and presentations for clients, employers and community partners
- Serve as a point of contact for Indigenous Services and promote student engagement through tabling events, presentations, and campus tours
- Build and maintain relationships with Elders, knowledge holders, and community partners to deliver Indigenous culturally appropriate consultations and events
- Tracking client intake, community and college referrals, documenting return to work/school action plan progress, job development and retention using multiple databases and funder driven systems
- Apply guiding frameworks such as Maajishkaadaa (Let’s Move Forward Together) Indigenization Strategy, the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) Calls to Action, the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two Spirit (MMIWG2S) Calls for Justice, the CICan Indigenous Education Protocol, and the Georgian College Strategic Plan to ensure alignment and accountability in all planning and reporting activities.
Qualifications:
- Successfully completed a two-year postsecondary diploma in a relevant field of study that may include, but is not limited to Career and Work Counsellor, Human Services, Social Service Worker, or Business Administration/Human Resources
- A minimum of five years’ experience in community-based employment or career service delivery or a relevant work environment
- This position requires the candidate to demonstrate Indigenous citizenship, traditional knowledge and connection to Indigenous community, as well as lived experience and deep understanding and respect of Indigenous histories, traditions and cultures
- One-year post-graduate certificate in Human Resources, Career Development Practitioner, or Mental Health – Interprofessional Practice is an asset
- Experience working within employment service delivery, community service delivery or labour market trend analysis within the local economic region to assist in the development of action plans
- Computer skills and experience with databases (entering, analyzing and maintaining statistical data), career planning software (i.e. Career Cruising, web-based assessments, etc.), Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel Outlook, etc.), and social media for program promotion (Facebook, Linked In, Snapchat and Instragram), updating marketing material (Cava and Adobe) and effective use of AI for job search and employer research.

- Ability to maintain and adhere to confidentiality guidelines set out by program funder and Georgian College
- Ability to travel to off campus sites as required
- Ability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends and non-mandatory statutory holidays
- Experience working with EOIS CaMS/OPS BPS Secure, ESCases systems an asset.
